Barring any better metal, this works in a pinch. A fire outside of a smithy is nowhere near hot enough to damage a blade.

[IE he's gonna heat it up and do the old "stick your open wound on hot metal to close it" schtick. Despite how generally funky he was being about the blade earlier, he seems to have no issue with sticking the blunt edge over a wholeass tiki torch.]
